Unemployment already reaches 19,120 people in Lanzarote, after adding 823 unemployed in January

It is the worst figure recorded since the beginning of the pandemic, with an increase of almost 70% compared to the previous year

Unemployment has grown again in Lanzarote, which has reached 19,120 unemployed. Specifically, according to data from the Canary Islands Employment Observatory published by the Cabildo Data Center, the island closed January with 823 more unemployed than the previous month, which represents an increase of 4.5%.

Lanzarote has 68.9% more unemployed than a year ago, since then there were 11,317 unemployed on the island. In addition, Lanzarote registers the worst figure since the beginning of the pandemic. The highest number of unemployed reached in 2020 was 18,390 in the month of November.

To these unemployed workers we must add those who continue in ERTE, which at the beginning of the year were more than 20,000 in Lanzarote.

In the Canary Islands as a whole, the number of unemployed registered in the offices of the public employment services has reached 279,230 unemployed, after increasing by 9,793 people in January, which represents an increase of 3.63% compared to the previous month and 32.23% compared to January 2019.
