52% of students who graduated from public universities in the Canary Islands are working just one quarter after finishing their studies. This data refers to people who completed their studies in the 2022-2023 academic year.

This is one of the aspects that appears in the Labor Insertion Statistics published today by the Canary Islands Statistics Institute (ISTAC), prepared in collaboration with the Canary Islands Agency for University Quality and Educational Evaluation (ACCUEE).

The data has increased by more than 2 percentage points compared to the labor insertion rate in the quarter of graduation in the 2021-2022 academic year. By universities, the data is similar, although slightly higher in the case of the University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria.

Regarding the branches of knowledge, Engineering and Architecture is the one with the highest degree of labor insertion in the quarter of completing their studies. 64% of the students were working just 3 months after graduating. On the other hand, in Arts and Humanities this percentage was 31%.

In 2023-2024, the total number of students who completed their university studies of degree, master's or doctorate in the public universities of the Canary Islands was 6,684. Of these, 4,104 were women and 2,580 were men. Almost half of these people, 3,312, completed their studies in the branch of Social and Legal Sciences.

If we compare the branches of studies with the sex of the graduates, there are significant differences. In the studies of the branch of Health Sciences, women who complete their studies represent 70.5% of the students, compared to the branch of Engineering and Architecture, where men represent 71.9% of the graduates. The data in the branch of Sciences, however, are very similar between both sexes, with 48.5% of women compared to 51.5% of men.

By branches of knowledge, almost 8 out of 10 people with a degree in Health Sciences (77.4%) had a job one year after finishing their studies. This percentage was 72.4% in the case of Engineering and Architecture, while it drops to 38.5% for people who studied Arts and Humanities.
