THE INFRASTRUCTURE WILL HAVE "A COUPLE OF NEW FEATURES"

The works of Marina Lanzarote, the future marina of Arrecife, could be finished in "March or April", as pointed out this Monday by José Calero, promoter of the project, in a visit in which he was accompanied by the Minister of Development, Ana Pastor, as well as by leaders of the PP and island businessmen. "We have to keep pressing the construction company to go faster," said Calero, although he was happy with the progress of these works, which were so difficult to start.

Calero even pointed out the possibility of "putting some spotlights to work at night", as long as "it does not bother the neighbors". Some time ago, the residents of Valterra complained about noise because of these works. In this sense, Calero explained that each concrete column has "two micropiles" and when placing them and the "drill bit reaching the seabed, in some places 20 meters deep, a small noise was created", which bothered the neighbors. However, this was necessary for the infrastructure to have a "good resistance".

José Calero also stressed that Marina Lanzarote will have "a couple of new features", such as a pit for large sailing boats, which have five meters of keel. Thus, it will be the only shipyard in Spain that has this facility. "The boats of the Volvo Ocean Race, for example, will be able to come. Instead of having them eight meters high, they will be sheltered there and the risk of the storm knocking them down is reduced. It is more comfortable," he said, while showing the works.

And the other novelty that has been added to the marina project is another pit for Perini Navi boats, which are "Italian boats of 50, 60 or 70 meters, which have a continuous keel and stabilizers to make the crossing easier for those who get seasick". In the pit there are some sides so that these boats "have space, to be able to fit them there and that the repairs are safer". "It is more comfortable and avoids wind risks," explained Calero.

The containment dike

There is also "about" to be a containment dike to avoid future problems with the largest boat crane in the country, called travelift, which is installed in Marina Lanzarote and has a total weight of 1,025 tons. "When it moves, it can move the ground. Therefore, everything is well compacted, with very specialized cement, the one with the most resistance," said José Calero.
