The interconnection that connects the islands of Lanzarote and Fuerteventura "has a positive impact on the environment", according to the results of the study on the ecological impact of the link, assures Red Eléctrica.
This submarine cable was the first between the Canary Islands and with it, the security and quality of the electricity supply, as well as the integration of renewable energies, is improved.
The findings collected in the environmental study show that "marine life thrives along the route and the protection of the cable has merged with the natural marine habitat to the point that the installation is now mostly invisible to the naked eye."
The cable is protected by a custom-made ecological concrete solution to protect the infrastructure along its submarine trench, the note states.
This is a project aimed at favoring the integration of this type of infrastructure in the environment and its positive impact on the environment.
In addition, several species of fish, algae, sponges, crustaceans, mollusks and sea urchins have already adopted the structure as a habitat, which represents a clear ecological improvement compared to the behavior of conventional solutions.
The biopotentiating concrete system covers the cable trench on the rocky seabed between the islands to protect both the cable and the local marine ecosystem and its biodiversity.
