The Port Authority of Las Palmas has renewed the agreement with the Chamber of Commerce of Lanzarote for the joint management of the Border Inspection Post (BIP) for another four years.

Regarding the BIP of Fuerteventura, the Board of Directors has delegated to the president Beatriz Calzada the competence to approve the text of the agreement between the Port Authority, the Cabildo of Fuerteventura and the Chamber of Commerce of the island for the joint management of the Border Inspection Post.

In other matters, the Authority is finalizing the details for the implementation of appointment scheduling for the reception and delivery of containers at the terminals.

New software for appointment scheduling in reception and delivery of containers

The Board of Directors held this Thursday has given the green light to the extension of the deadline for the execution of the contract that will allow the software that will regulate the appointments to be put into operation, which is currently in the testing phase. Once it is operational, carriers will come to pick up the loads on the day and time that has been previously requested, which will avoid queues and speed up traffic, especially in the Port of Las Palmas.

The Board has also approved granting more requests for public domain concession to companies located in the Muelle Deportivo that have requested them in order to continue with their businesses. With these, the number of companies that have already joined the measure launched by the Port Authority last April to offer legal security and guarantees to entrepreneurs during the next three years amounts to 92%.

Likewise, Rodritol S.L. has been granted a new extension of three months for the completion of the works of the 'Marine Work Project', with the works to be completed on October 7, 2024, and another extension, in this case for six months, for the completion of the works committed in the 'Urbanization Project', with a completion date of December 26, 2024. The company is building a nautical service center for sports boats of great size and other similar professionals in the Muelle del Refugio of the Port of Las Palmas.

Tragsa becomes a "own means" of the Authority

Finally, the directors have approved granting authorization to the Empresa de Transformación Agraria S.A (TRAGSA) to act as its own means of the Port Authority of Las Palmas solely and exclusively in cases where private companies do not want to carry out the necessary work by Puertos de Las Palmas.

The president Beatriz Calzada explained that “this is an exceptional measure, given that we have already had two cases of bidding for two projects, specifically the improvement of the Punta Pesebre beacon with an amount of 126,966.24 euros and an execution period of 5 months, and the improvements of the Punta Jandía lighthouse, with an amount of 208,803.48 euros and an execution period of 5 months, which have been deserted. Two projects that we will re-tender, we will review the prices and we will study the possibility of taking them out in a batch, waiting for them to be interesting for the companies that want to present themselves.

To these projects we must add the request of the Cabildo de Fuerteventura to condition the lighthouse of the island of Lobos. From the Port Authority we understand that the works have a greater complexity due to the characteristics of the location in which the lighthouses are located. That is why we have been forced to enable this tool, the authorization of TRAGSA as its own means, in an exceptional way, and I want to emphasize that in no case will it be used if there are private companies that want to carry out the work”, she argued.
