Second-hand vehicle sales in the Canary Islands in August were 6,531, which represents a decrease of 14.82% compared to the same month of 2021, compared to a decrease of 8.1% in Spain as a whole, according to data provided by the National Association of Vehicle Dealers (Ancove).
In the first eight months of 2022, 54,482 vehicles have been transferred in the Canary Islands, 5.16% less than in the same period of 2021, while the national average decrease was 4.8%.
By provinces, in Las Palmas 3,559 units were sold in August, a decrease of 14.69% compared to the same month of 2021, and so far this year sales total 29,070 vehicles, an interannual decrease of 1.74%.
In Santa Cruz de Tenerife, there were 2,972 transactions in August, 14.96% less, and so far this year the units sold total 25,412, 8.79% less than in the first eight months of 2021.
Although the second-hand market is declining less than the new vehicle market, "the situation is worrying if one takes into account that a large majority of the merchants in this sector are small with little financial margin," according to Eric Iglesias, general director of Ancove.
