The Cabildo of Lanzarote, together with the public company Proexca, has promoted the brand 'Canarias Islas de Moda' (Canary Islands, Islands of Fashion), the main initiative of the Strategic Plan of the Fashion Sector of the Island Government, with the aim of "incentivizing the commercialization of companies and improving their national and international positioning".

The Councilor for Industry and New Technologies of the Island Corporation, Miguel Ángel Jiménez, who was present at the press conference to present the action together with representatives of other councils, highlights the importance of this initiative "to strengthen the regional economy", recognizing the "role of the fashion sector in the economic diversification of the archipelago." "This will allow 30 companies from the islands to attend important events, both nationally and internationally, such as Momad, Bisutex, Atelier Couture in Madrid or even London Fashion Week," he argues.

At this meeting, the agreement was made public that Proexca will support the main events of the four member councils, such as the Tenerife International Fashion Fair, Gran Canaria Swim Week, Lanzarote Fashion Weekend and La Palma Fashion Week. Likewise, commercial missions will be organized, professionals from the sector will be invited to assess collections of young designers and the first International Training Program for fashion will be created.

The fashion sector represents 2.8% of the national GDP, so these actions promote the economic development of the Canary Islands, generating quality job opportunities and diversification of the economy, in addition to favoring the creativity of Canarian designers.
