Patrimonio Nacional has awarded, on an urgent basis, a new contract for the security of the official residence of La Mareta in Costa Teguise for the next twelve months.

The contract to guard the residence where the President of the Government of Spain traditionally spends part of his holidays has been awarded to the Madrid-based company Clece Seguridad S.A for a value of 266,094.13 euros. The budget for the remainder of 2026 amounts to 77,276.65 euros and 188,817.48 euros in 2027.

As published on its corporate website, Clece Seguridad is among the 7 main operators in the private security sector in Spain, with a presence throughout the territory, and in Portugal.

The turnover of the Madrid-based company is over 90 million euros and it has more than 3,200 professionals.

The tender by Patrimonio Nacional was launched for an estimated value of 13.7 million euros to provide service not only to La Mareta, but also to the facilities of El Pardo, San Lorenzo de El Escorial, Aranjuez, La Granja de San Ildefonso, Seville, Palma de Mallorca, Yuste, Patronato de Huelgas, and Patronato de Santa Clara.

La Mareta was built at the request of King Hussein I of Jordan in the late 1970s. The design is by César Manrique and architect Fernando Higueras.

In the late 1980s, Hussein gifted the house to Juan Carlos I, current king emeritus of Spain, who in turn ceded it to Patrimonio Nacional.

The name of the property is due to the fact that in the same place there was a "mareta", that is, a cistern used to collect rainwater and as a watering trough for animals.
