The Lanzarote harvest has closed with a total of 1,354,393 kilos of grapes collected, according to data provided by the island's wineries to the Regulatory Council. This figure is less than half of the amount harvested in 2019, which was more than 2.8 million.
The most collected grape variety has been Malvasía Volcánica, with a total of 967,073 kilos. The next most abundant variety has been Listán Negro, with 174,211 kilos; a much lower amount than the previous one.
It should be noted that, compared to the last five years, the 2020 harvest has been almost double that of 2016, in which only 695,571 kilos of grapes were collected. However, these last years were very good for the Designation of Origin 'Vinos de Lanzarote', since in 2015 and 2018 the figure of 3.8 million kilos of grapes was exceeded.
From the Regulatory Council they wanted to transmit this year "a message of support and gratitude to both the winegrowers and the winemakers of the Island who, despite the complicated conditions in which the current situation has put us, have carried out this harvest in an exemplary manner".
