The General Union of Workers (UGT) has decided to call off the strike it had called in the "handling" services, that is, ground assistance for airplanes and passengers, for the week of the December long weekend.
The decision was made after the negotiation carried out in the Interconfederal Mediation and Arbitration Service (SIMA) to try to avoid a strike that sought to demand "real, concrete and clear commitments" and avoid the reduction of workers' rights.
The union has achieved that the Association of Ground Handling Services Companies at Airports (Aseata) change in the fifth agreement of the sector to expand the powers of the joint commission and add tools that allow the control, the collection of breaches and the quarterly transfer of the reports generated in the commission to Aena so that it acts.
UGT had called the "handling" workers in the airports of the Aena network to a strike on December 5 and 10 due to the clear risk of precariousness of their working conditions in the coming years, after the latest awards from the airport operator, which would cause the movement of thousands of employees from their current companies to others.
In a statement after the agreement, UGT said that measures must be taken to correct the model of labor relations in 'handling', especially after a new process of awards in which, in the absence of the effects produced by the appeals filed, there would be a transfer of thousands of workers between companies.
