Companies and professional groups from the islands that have premiered stage works during 2024, or that plan to do so before October 31, 2025, may be eligible for the aid offered by the Government of the Canary Islands in this area.

The subsidies are aimed at pieces of theater, dance, circus, movement arts and oral narration, among other scenic genres.

The Minister of Universities, Science and Innovation and Culture, Migdalia Machín, has authorized the investment of 500,000 euros and the sending of the bases that will govern this call to the Official Gazette of the Canary Islands (BOC) for its publication. Meanwhile, these rules can already be consulted on the website of the Canarian Institute of Cultural Development (ICDC).

In this sense, the counselor stated: "We want the performing arts in the Canary Islands to continue growing and connecting with the public, promoting creations that reflect our diversity and talent." Machín insisted that "supporting the companies and professionals of our islands is betting on a living culture, capable of generating employment, cohesion and opportunities for those who work in it."

The subsidies are aimed at projects produced and premiered in the Canary Islands by companies, entities and professionals of this autonomous community and the call will be in a competitive competition regime. Once the bases are published, there will be a period of 20 business days to submit proposals.

At least 70% of professionals must be from the archipelago

Regarding the requirements, it is established that at least seventy percent of the artistic and technical cast must be composed of professionals residing in the Canary Islands.

The evaluation committee will take into account the cultural value and interest of the project; the production of projects of Canarian authorship (of the original text or of the theatrical adaptation of texts for staging); quality and coherence of the staging, of the artistic and technical aspects of the production and of the direction proposal in relation to the dramaturgical proposal.

The dramaturgical interest of the project will also be assessed in relation to cultural, historical, social and/or relevant aspects in the Canary Islands, the originality of the proposal and the generation of intellectual property rights.

Likewise, its contemporaneity, which incorporates the identification, research, generation and use of innovative artistic processes, new languages and approaches; as well as the inclusion of explicit processes of participation of the public in key aspects of the project.

The trajectory of the applicant person or entity, and of the team, awards and distinctions received, reviews, impact of the impact of their works or co-productions will be taken into account; as well as actions aimed at promoting equal opportunities, parity in the composition of the team of artists, technicians and professionals; and the accessibility of the project, among others.

The electronic presentation will be the only valid means to formalize the applications and the necessary documentation required. It will be in the Electronic Headquarters and General Access Point of the Public Administration of the Autonomous Community of the Canary Islands.

It should be noted that 'production of projects' of performing arts means the processes and activities necessary for the development and realization of proposals from their ideation to their premiere before the audience. Individual entrepreneurs and autonomous professionals whose main activity is related to this sector, as well as companies and cultural entities whose corporate purpose is located in this area, can be presented.
