The Government of the Canary Islands has just approved the Draft Decree that modifies the Regulations governing the Technical Inspection of Vehicles in the Canary Islands, approved by decree 47/2020, of May 21, which makes the hiring requirements for the technical staff of the ITV more flexible.
The Government has modified this Decree in response to the need, on the one hand, to update the provisions of labor regulations that have undergone significant changes in terms of work-life balance since 2020, and, on the other hand, to harmonize its requirements with state regulations regarding the length of experience required of technical personnel who must hold the technical management of technical vehicle inspection stations to prove their technical competence, as well as the requirements to be met by the inspection personnel.
The previous Decree established for applicants to the technical management, in addition to a specific qualification, the need to have one year of experience in professional or work activities related to the automotive industry, a circumstance that, although it may have constituted a valid formula at the time to prove the qualification, today constitutes an insurmountable obstacle for ITV operators who find it impossible to find applicants in the Canary Islands labor market who meet this requirement.
To solve this problem, it is appropriate to require a technical qualification for the technical directors of the ITV stations based on their qualification, without setting minimum periods of experience, in the same way as established in the state regulations.
The same applies to the inspection personnel of the ITV stations, as the current situation of the labor market prevents having sufficient personnel with a qualification of higher technician in automotive or technician in vehicle electromechanics with three years of experience to cover the demand expected in the coming months.
With this approval, the Government improves the quality of service of the ITV stations in the Canary Islands, facilitating the hiring of technical personnel and guaranteeing road safety.
