Canary Islands hosts these days the XXVIII Conference of Presidents of the Outermost Regions (ORs) that are part of the European Union (EU) and that in addition to the fortunate ones, includes the Portuguese archipelagos of Madeira and Azores, and the French regions of Guadeloupe, Guyana, Martinique, Reunion, Mayotte and Saint Martin.
From November 8 to 9, the headquarters of the Presidency in Santa Cruz de Tenerife will host a program of events in which representatives of the nine European regions that make up the European outermost region will participate. Among other issues, the Canary Islands will transfer the Presidency of this representative body of the outermost regions to the French territory of La Réunion.
Created in 1988, the Conference of Presidents of the Outermost Regions (CPRUP) is the main body for political, technical and administrative cooperation between the ORs to reach agreements in defense of the outermost region status before the governments of the member states with ORs and, above all, before the EU institutions.
Integrated by the presidents of the regions that are part of the outermost region in the EU, the Conference of Presidents of the ORs meets every year in the outermost region that holds the Presidency by rotating shift and with annual periodicity to set the basic lines of action of these regions in the national, European and international contexts.
This work, which will be reflected in a final declaration of all the governments of the ORs, becomes each year the roadmap for the political action of the ORs of Spain, France and Portugal.
The program of this XXVIII CPRUP, organized by the General Directorate of European Affairs, counts with the participation of high representatives of the governments of the regions belonging to Spain, France and Portugal.
In the partnership session scheduled for November 9 in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, a large delegation of regional, national and European political representatives will also participate in the XXVIII CPRUP.
Jorge Pedro Mauricio Dos Santos, Minister of the Communities of Cape Verde, one of the Third Countries privileged partners of the ORs of Macaronesia in West Africa, will also participate in this session as a guest.
