Canary Islands announces aid for city councils to support commerce

The subsidies will be used to support and improve open commercial, rural areas and traditional markets

The Ministry of Tourism, Industry and Commerce of the Government of Canary Islands has announced subsidies worth 900,000 euros for local entities, to be allocated to open commercial, rural areas and traditional markets during 2023 and 2024.

The subsidies are aimed at improving the complementary equipment of open commercial areas in the municipalities of the Canary Islands through actions consisting of strategic studies, urban-commercial action plan, complementary investments to basic equipment or other actions aimed at promoting the creation of an Open Commercial Area (OCA) management entity.

The call for applications, published in the Official Gazette of the Canary Islands, specifies that city councils, as well as the management entities that the local entities of municipal scope have authorized for the management of the services of these commercial equipment, may be beneficiaries.

Similarly, complementary equipment that can offer a unified and improved image of said area or actions to promote the creation of a management entity of the open commercial area for municipalities in which there is no registered business association with a majority commercial activity that manages said area may be eligible for aid.
