The Minister of Public Works, Housing and Mobility, Pablo Rodríguez, has accused the central government this Tuesday of not paying the real cost of free public transport in the Canary Islands, which forces the councils to pay the difference, subtracting resources from other "more priority" policies.

The head of Public Works has spoken in this way in the regional Parliament in response to the popular deputy Fernando Enseñat, who asked him about the consequences of the low execution for investments destined for the Canary Islands in 2023 by the Government of Spain.

Pablo Rodríguez has specified that the regional Executive obviously expects the Canarian agenda to be fulfilled, and that direct investment and transfers reach the archipelago, to admit that "it always costs a lot to have specific items for the Canary Islands painted in the General State Budgets."

But also, he continued, one thing is that these items are included and others are executed and among the breaches are that the compensation of one hundred percent in the transport of goods has not been updated, and that the central government transfers to the islands "much less" than it costs to pay for free public transport, which forces the councils to divert resources for this issue.
