Canarias, Asturias and País Vasco are the only communities that avoid incurring a deficit until last February, and all the autonomies register a deficit of 3,646 million euros, equivalent to 0.24% of GDP and that practically triples the figure collected in February 2023 (1,265 million).
In fact, they present a surplus, that of the Basque Country amounts to 133 million euros; that of Canarias, to 64 million; and that of Asturias, to 61 million.
According to budget execution data at the close of February, published by the Ministry of Finance, the list of autonomous administrations with the highest deficit with respect to GDP was headed by the Balearic Islands (0.48%), the Valencian Community (0.45%), Andalusia (0.44%) and Murcia (0.38%).
In absolute figures, the largest deficit at the close of February corresponded to Andalusia (916 million euros), followed by Catalonia (690 million), Madrid (683 million) and the Valencian Community (653 million).
In addition, the Basque Country and Navarra are the only two regions that are in a better situation compared to the close of February 2023: in the Basque Country the surplus has increased by 0.04 percentage points with respect to GDP and in Navarra the deficit has been reduced by 0.16 points.
The Ministry of Finance points out that these accounting results are due to an increase in expenses of 6.9%, while revenues barely vary with respect to February 2023.
