CaixaBank and the La Caja de Canarias Foundation have launched this Wednesday the '2022 Environment Call' with the aim of supporting with 30,000 euros projects of entities that work in the Canary Islands to improve the natural heritage, through the protection of biodiversity, environmental innovation and the fight against depopulation.
The call is open until September 29 and non-profit entities with a minimum age of one year, whose activity is related to the protection of nature and the environment or rural development, and whose headquarters are in the Canary Islands, can apply.
Applications can be made online on the website of CaixaBank, as well as on the website of the La Caja de Canarias Foundation and it is expected that the selected entities, whose projects will be supported with an economic endowment of between 5,000 and 20,000 euros, will be known next December. The amount of the grants may not exceed 80% of the total cost of the project.
“We encourage local entities and associations to submit their projects to the 'Environment Call', which reinforces CaixaBank's commitment to the fight against the climate emergency and the improvement of the environment in the Archipelago,” said the territorial director of CaixaBank in the Canary Islands, Juan Ramón Fuertes.
Biodiversity, circular economy, environmental innovation and demographic challenge
The submitted projects must be framed in one of the four typologies defined in the call: biodiversity, circular economy, environmental innovation and demographic challenge,
Biodiversity projects must promote the conservation, restoration and sustainable use of ecosystems (terrestrial, marine and freshwater), as well as the enhancement of the services they provide. In particular, projects that promote the conservation of forests, wetlands, mountains, soils, or endangered or threatened fauna.
Circular economy initiatives should help reduce and recycle waste, with special mention to plastics.
Environmental innovation projects must propose technological innovations related to new or modified procedures, techniques, systems or products that are useful to reduce or avoid environmental damage.
Demographic challenge, linked to environmental impact, is the fourth area of projects. The initiatives submitted must be focused on the fight against depopulation, support for rural development and, at the same time, have a component of environmental protection or positive environmental impact.
