Bodegas La Geria reports the end of the 2023 harvest, which has reached "four hundred thousand kilos of grapes", a production that is being processed these days. This year, the winery has collected twice as many kilos as it did in last year's harvest. Alejandro Besay Felipe Muñoz, winemaker at Bodegas La Geria, believes that "this year we are pleased to have obtained a very good quality of the volcanic Malvasia grape".
"We started picking grapes on July 16 and finished on August 25 with Muscat and Diego grapes. The quality obtained this year is due to the fact that we have not suffered complicated diseases in viticulture or excessive heat waves that damaged the vineyard this season. In the wines we observe quite a few citrus and tropical aromas. The Malvasia has remained quite good.”
Regarding the red wines, the winemaker of Bodega La Geria explains that "the red wines are in malolactic fermentation. We have achieved a red wine with a fairly good quality as well and with a slightly higher alcohol content since, when so many white grapes entered, we had to wait a little longer for the black Listan grape, which allowed it to mature a little better. The objective is to match the "good sensations" of the Manto Tinto from last year's vintage, which the renowned sommelier Gustavo Palomo described as a "wonderful red wine with structure and volume, a red wine with personality and a lot, but a lot of sensitivity."
Besay specifies that "all the wines have already fermented and Bodega La Geria will begin bottling at the end of October or the beginning of November." The head of the winery, Ramón Melián, wants to "thank all the winegrowers for dedicating so much effort to bringing such high-quality grapes to Bodega La Geria. A large part of the merit is due to the affection they have for their product, which is key to the quality of our productions," he concludes.
