The airline Binter has reported this Friday that it has launched its latest ATR-72 600, which has arrived from Toulouse and will fly through the skies of the Canary Islands under the name Manolo Vieira.
In a statement, the company has indicated that it decided to name its new plane after the popular Canarian comedian, who died in February of this year, thus responding to the social call made through social networks and the collective of comedians from the Canary Islands.
In this way, Binter carried out the launch "in an intimate act with family and friends of the Canarian humorist, in which they were supported by company employees."
"With this action we intend to pay tribute to a contemporary character of the airline and who in his countless shows always had winks and gestures of affection with the brand, such as the already famous one driving along the old road,” adds the airline, which believes that this gesture “will help preserve the figure of Manolo Vieira in the hearts of the Canarians.”
The company's general coordinator, Santiago Guerra, has pointed out that Binter "is characterized by having elements of Canarian daily life in the name of its planes: timple, rapadura, baifo... but not of illustrious characters".
"Manolo Vieira increases the number of 28 ATRs that make up our fleet," he said before unveiling the name of the plane together with the humorist's widow, Pepa Hernández.
