The cruise season has completed its second weekend in Arrecife, which expects to receive more than 100 cruises in the remainder of the year. "The schedule planned by the Port Authority of Las Palmas confirms the gradual recovery of the cruise tourism sector, with occupancy data that tries to get closer to those that existed before the pandemic,” they point out from the City Council.

For the moment, they point out that in the ports of the province “the increase in moorings in the 2021-2022 season is 18.04 percent higher than in 2018-2019, prior to the pandemic, although part of this increase in stopovers is due to the reduction of places in ships to 75 percent, in compliance with current regulations due to Covid-19.”

From the Council they detail that the season began on October 1 with the arrival at the Port of Arrecife of the 'Celebrity Silhouette', with 1,141 tourists on board, while on Friday morning the MSC Splendida docked at the Arrecife Cruise Pier, coming from Barcelona and with 1,500 passengers on board, “most of them of Italian nationality.” The passenger increase data, in relation to the Celebrity Silhoutte, they affirm that “it is already a good sign that invites optimism around the beginning of this cruise season.”

This month alone, another 20 cruises are scheduled to arrive at the port of Arrecife, to which 46 will be added in November and 39 in December, reaching a total of 107 in this last quarter of the year.

Within the list of cruises that will call at the Port of Arrecife during this 2021-2022 season, the Council points out that there are 'old acquaintances' of the capital, “such as the twin ships Mein Schiff or the traditional AIDA Cruices, in addition to the Queen Elizabeth, which can also be seen on October 26.”

The Arrecife City Council maintains that it is “in permanent contact with the Arrecife port authority to try to facilitate the stay of these tourists in the city, and make their walk through the streets of the capital and the visit to our shops and restaurants as pleasant as possible, so that they can take a pleasant image of Arrecife.”

For this, he affirms that he has launched “a shock plan for road cleaning and improvement of parks and gardens to update the city, for its residents and logically to reinforce the image of a hospitable and clean city for those thousands of tourists who are visiting us and who will do so in the coming months.”
