Used cars and km0 continue to occupy a large percentage of sales

Car sales in Spain are beginning to grow progressively after several years of declines. Despite this, not all sectors of this industry are growing equally, as used and km0 models are still driving sales.

According to data from the IEA, the Institute of Automotive Studies, almost 72% of potential buyers who decide to purchase a new vehicle focus their attention on the used market, the reasons for this spectacular figure being the competitive price that many specialized stores offer and the increasing quality of vehicles that can be found in this market. Another figure that demonstrates this continuous growth in the sale of used and km0 cars is, for example, the one that indicates the growth in sales, which in the first three months of this year is around 18% compared to the same period of the previous year. Thus, for every new car sold in Spain, the number of used and km0 vehicles that are transferred rises to 2.2, a figure that, without a doubt, reflects the health and confidence of consumers in this sector.

However, if we delve a little deeper into the sales data, we see that there are notable differences between the models that are purchased and that, in addition, there is an extreme polarization of used sales. This trend indicates that cars less than 3 years old and those more than 10 years old are the ones that have the most outlets in the current market, something that shows that what the buyer is looking for is, above all, an affordable price. Thus, sales of cars over 10 years old account for up to 68% of the total, which does not prevent another type of buyer, who, apart from the price, wants a guaranteed quality, from looking for their next vehicle in km0 models.

These trends are reflected in localities such as Lanzarote, where the existence of car fleets from rental agencies for tourists usually abundantly supply the used sector, leading to the purchase of vehicles of recent years at fairly reduced prices.

The reasons may be diverse and, as we have already stated, the lower price and quality are usually the first. However, there is a factor that is changing the course of this industry for the better, namely, the sale of km0 cars online. Thanks to the creation of specialized websites and portals, where the offer of vehicles of this type is greater and the prices that are obtained are lower, we can talk about sales through the Internet as one of the new engines that drive this industry. Something that, without a doubt, will continue to allow sales to grow in the future and will increase the possibilities of consumers in their search for a new vehicle.

Thus, the world of technology has also opened its doors to the automotive sector, which ensures growth in the sales sector and a new avenue of business and opportunities for all those who make up this industry.
