If you are on the island, diving in Lanzarote will have a positive impact on your life. Still, to fully enjoy your experience you will have to take into account a series of tips:
Check your diving equipment
The equipment is reliable and guarantees your safety, but it requires a minimum of maintenance to guarantee an adequate service. Divers must understand the capabilities and limitations of their own tools.
Seek training in both the use and maintenance and dedicate enough time to familiarize yourself with the accessories before diving. Remember to check everything well before your departure. Only in that way will you gain serenity, comfort and safety in your dives.
Respect your limits
Dive reasonably and do not experience more demanding conditions than your previous times without more solid training.
Don't overestimate yourself! It is always tempting to try a deeper dive than the last one you did, but without proper supervision, such a dive can turn into a nightmare.
Improve your physical conditioning
Diving is a sport and should be treated as such. The practice of this discipline, although considered a hobby, requires a minimum of physical performance.
Exposure to a pressurized environment with oral breathing through new equipment and physiological restrictions requires a resistance that a tired or overweight body can hardly afford.
Practice mental relaxation
Many people with everyday problems of anxiety, fears or other psychological difficulties can dive safely. However, if for some reason at some point you do not feel ready to enter the water, cancel the dive.
Plan the dive
Predicting what you are going to do is important if you want to enjoy. If the rhythm, the form, the role of each one, the depth... are not planned, there is a risk of suffering an accident. Do not leave room for improvisation.
Before leaving, you should listen carefully to the description of the site and the advice that your colleagues and professionals have to give you. This time to plan the surface will be an advantage in long moments of serenity and relaxation at the bottom.
Learn about the dangers, specific skills required, and other unique aspects of your dive site. Not all seas are the same.
Perform first aid training
Make sure your first aid, cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and oxygen administration skills are up to date. If you have not had the opportunity to complete this training, look for a team member who has such training.
Carry emergency supplies
It is vital to keep a first aid kit properly stored and with the items within the expiration date. You should also make sure you have enough oxygen available to attend to at least one injured diver until the arrival of medical personnel. Obviously, remote locations require more oxygen.
Stay alert
Be an alert diver. You should know that even when a diver does everything right, unforeseen events can happen. Do not be surprised when they happen. A higher level of training can bring calm in the midst of chaos.
