Last weekend, the second tribute to the young Lanzarote native Omar Martín, world Karting champion in 2004, who passed away in March 2012, took place.

On Sunday, December 15, 25 drivers grouped in the categories of 125cc automatic, 125 DD2, 125 KZ and Cadets met at the Gran Karting Club (GKC) where each one participated in two heats for each modality. Among these drivers were great promises such as the young Daniaela Ballesteros, 16 years old, winner in 125cc automatic, Massimo Aceto from the official Gold Racing Team of Verona, Italy, and winner in the 125 DD2 category, Marcus Damsell winner in KZ and Yoday Betancort winner of the Cadets group. The organization of the event was carried out by Olivier Heyder Brucker, a great fan of this sport of Belgian origin, based in Lanzarote.

The Gran Karting Club of Puerto del Carmen is among the best tracks in Spain to practice this sport with an infrastructure designed to organize championships at the highest level. Since its beginnings in 1999 it has hosted competitions such as the Spanish Championship in 2002 and the World Championship in 2004. The layout of the circuits has been designed by professionals with the intention of achieving a fast circuit and technical. Its layout is completely flat, with a very fine asphalt of great quality and adhesion. It has five circuits; Children's for children from 5 years old, Junior for young people between 12 and 16 years old and Senior, from 16 years old. All these circuits can be used both with rental karts and with private competition karts.

At the GKC they have a large fleet of karts suitable for the age and skill of the driver. The track monitors are motor professionals and ensure at all times for safety on the circuits and the proper functioning and maintenance of the karts to ensure the prudent use of minivans. They have 26 boxes for rent of kart owners or for preparation in the competitions held in the circuit. They also have an area for the location of trucks and booths for the competition teams.

Among its facilities there is a cafeteria service and a room for events available for celebrations of all kinds; birthdays, bachelor parties, etc. They also have special packages for organizing competitions between friends, incentives for companies and a members club (GKC). Users can benefit from a transport service for a minimum of 8 people in addition to discounts for residents.
