For the fifth consecutive year, business organizations, the Cabildo of Lanzarote and, this year, the General Directorate of Commerce of the Government of the Canary Islands, are launching the traditional message of early closing of establishments on the two designated days of family celebration: December 24 and 31.
The message has been permeating society year after year and more and more establishments are bringing forward the closing on Christmas Eve and New Year's Eve. But in order for this measure to have a greater impact, we appeal to the responsibility of citizens to bring forward their Christmas shopping so that retailers can close at six o'clock in the afternoon on those two days.
Two and a half hours earlier at home
The idea was born from the Island Trade Commission, which includes the Chamber of Commerce, the Business Confederation, Comisiones Obreras, UGT and the Cabildo of Lanzarote, but this year it is reinforced thanks to the economic collaboration of the General Directorate of Commerce of the Government of the Canary Islands, which will allow greater dissemination of the campaign.
The objective is to facilitate work-life balance on these special days when everyone wants to share the preparations with their loved ones. Reducing the public service hours by two and a half hours can be of great help to many families and does not have to mean a loss for commercial establishments, as long as there is responsible participation from citizens so that they do not leave their purchases for the last minute.
In addition, it represents an emotional salary incentive for workers, which in the long run has an impact on good labor relations.
Consume Local this Christmas
The Christmas spirit also aims to permeate us with a message of awareness to encourage responsible local consumption: consume in local establishments, which are the ones that generate employment and local economy. When we buy in local establishments we feed the logical economic cycle that ensures the stability of the residents of the environment.
