HiperDino, a leading chain in the food sector and the only 100% Canarian, has managed to reduce CO2 emissions by 2,500 tons into the atmosphere from its stores in 2020. The company also transfers energy efficiency to its Telde platform, incorporating a photovoltaic plant for self-consumption.
HiperDino's technical director, Rubén Molowny, states that "in the chain we are committed to more energy-efficient equipment with less environmental impact in all the actions we carry out, mainly renovations and new stores, using sustainable construction materials and incorporating LED lighting, temperature control systems, doors in cold walls and non-polluting refrigerants".
Rubén Molowny adds that "at this moment, the company is finalizing the installation of a photovoltaic plant in the Telde logistics center with 2,052 modules, for which we have made an investment of more than 600,000 euros".
The chain continues working to be a benchmark in sustainability in the Canary Islands and contribute to the 17 Sustainable Development Goals.
Temperature control systems
In 2020, the chain has continued to invest in temperature control systems, increasingly incurring in new improvements.
Almost 50% of HiperDino stores have these systems, in addition to the logistics centers. Furthermore, within the framework of the Strategic Plan for 2021, 19 more establishments will have these systems.
These control systems allow maintaining energy saving levels, reaching an average saving per store of 10% and, in some cases, even savings of up to 30%.
Photovoltaic plants
The installation of the photovoltaic plant on the Telde platform, in Gran Canaria, will be followed by other similar actions such as the HiperDino store located in the Güímar Industrial Estate, in Tenerife, of 3,173 square meters.
At the same time, the installation of photovoltaic plants in new stores and company centers is being studied.
