A unique place for a special celebration

The Farmer's Monument, also called the Fertility Monument, was built in 1969 as a symbol of the fertility of the Lanzarote countryside and as a tribute to the men and women who worked the harsh lands of Lanzarote. A clear example of the love that César Manrique felt for farmers. The sculptural work is complemented by the Farmer's House Museum, an old farmhouse restored and expanded by the artist with the aim of safeguarding the Canarian architectural style. It is an example of avant-garde and modern art that this conejero artist knew so well how to mix with the natural environment.

The statue that gives the monument its name is approximately 15 meters high and was created with water tanks from old fishing boats. It is built on La Peña de Tajaste. It symbolizes a person on a pack animal.
