The Minister of Health of the Government of the Canary Islands, Blas Trujillo, assured this Wednesday that currently "no" confinement or restrictions are contemplated, since the archipelago is "very distant" from what is happening in the Peninsula.
Trujillo has clarified that despite the fact that cases have increased in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, at the moment "no" data is available to have "on the table" the need to restrict or isolate any area of the city. "We are not in that scenario, fortunately", he pointed out.
However, he has stated that given the increase in cases that is occurring in the archipelago, it has been decided to reinforce "not only the messages, but also the measures", since he understands that the common link in all the communities is focused on the "relaxation on the part of everyone" because it is summer, they are coming out of confinement and private parties are taking place.
"It is obvious that relaxation occurs, but a call must be made to prevent it from occurring," he added in statements to Europa Press.
Reinforce the tracking teams
On the other hand, he announced that this Wednesday he has a meeting to hire "all the tracking reinforcements", since although he highlighted that the Canary Islands has one of the "most valued" tracker systems in the State, he also stated that the "tremendous effort" that has been made in the health framework in the archipelago has produced a "wear and tear", hence he understands that it needs "to be reinforced" now that there is barely a month left for the opening of the school year and the high tourist season.
To this, he added, will be added the fact that "Covid will overlap with the flu", hence he stressed that "the time to reinforce the teams is now." Trujillo took the opportunity to ensure that on the island of Gran Canaria the trackers are "fortunately functioning adequately."
Finally, regarding carrying out PCRs for those who visit the archipelago, he pointed out that now that "a good part of all countries are putting PCRs", the proposal will finally be framed in the high tourist season, considering that the "most effective" thing will be the PCRs at origin.
