The Minister of Health of the Government of the Canary Islands, Teresa Cruz, and the President of the Executive, Ángel Víctor Torres, have highlighted this Tuesday that the unions CCOO, UGT and SATSE have called off the doctors' strike scheduled for this Wednesday after a meeting in which new meetings were set in which progress can be made in collective bargaining.
Cruz Oval pointed out in an appearance before the media in Parliament that "the commitment adopted by the Government is to continue negotiating in the future the improvements proposed by the trade union organizations", highlighting its intention to "build bridges to reach all the agreements that are necessary to improve the situation of workers".
In this way, the Minister of Health stressed that the unions "have asked for dialogue and they will have it", showing her "absolute respect for the trade union organizations, which defend the interests of the workers".
For his part, the President of the Government of the Canary Islands, Ángel Víctor Torres, valued "the work carried out by the team of the Ministry of Health and the gesture of the unions", reflected in the holding of "multiple meetings to achieve social peace and develop all the negotiations that are necessary".
In his opinion, "any strike that is suspended and the path of negotiation is opened is good news," he concluded.
With regard to specific measures, the meeting resulted in a commitment to hold a meeting in which the technicians of the Canary Islands Health Service "explain why they cannot move forward with the proposal of a call for the OPE by management", ensuring "the legal certainty of the exams".
To alleviate this situation and the possible staff shortages in the different hospitals, Teresa Cruz conveyed her commitment to "guarantee the service commissions to remedy this deficit", accelerating its procedure.
The Ministry of Health also reaffirms its commitment to defending the rights of workers, with the clear purpose of increasing job stability in the sector, which will mean an improvement in the quality of care in the Canary Islands health system.
