The University of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria (ULPGC) has introduced a series of modifications to the action protocols and Covid-19 prevention measures for the return to classrooms after the Christmas period of the 2021-2022 academic year, including the reduction to 50 percent of the capacity of its classrooms or spaces for holding exams.

This is stated in the statement that the rector of the ULPGC, Lluís Serra Majem, has sent to the university community and in which, in line with the statements made by the Conference of Rectors of Spanish Universities (CRUE), it is stated that the "priority" aim is to maintain face-to-face attendance in academic activity, including the holding of exams, in accordance with the Rector's Resolution of October 1, 2021 on the return to teaching, research and training activity.

Thus, according to the Covid-19 protocol adopted by the ULPGC, it maintains the application of the prevention, hygiene and health promotion measures against the virus adopted since the beginning of the 2021-2022 academic year and incorporates a series of modifications that will be applied between January 10 and 29.

Specifically, these modifications are the reduction to 50 percent of the capacity in all spaces and areas, classrooms, study rooms, cafeterias and recreation areas on university campuses, as well as in classrooms for holding exams in the ordinary call for the first semester, in addition to avoiding crowds indoors and campus areas at the entrances and exits of exams.

It also includes limiting the time members of the university community spend in cafeterias to the time necessary for consumption, as reported by the ULPGC in a press release.

Regarding the holding of exams, students who, due to this unforeseen circumstance, cannot attend on the day of the exam, will notify the Covid officer of their center (administrator) and the professor responsible for the subject by email.

Likewise, according to article 26 of the Regulations for the evaluation of learning outcomes, the teaching staff will schedule the holding of another face-to-face evaluation test for the affected students, between the seventh and tenth day after the exam of the official call.

In the situation that it is a confirmed case and the symptoms persist, the student will require to justify these circumstances to the responsible teacher to plan their exam.

Finally, it is stated that members of the university community who present symptoms of suspected Covid-19 or have tested positive in the self-diagnosis test should isolate themselves at home from the onset of symptoms or the result of the test.

It also emphasizes that "it is important" that, to avoid the collapse of health centers, people do not go to the Emergency Room, but contact through the telephone number 900 112 061, where they will be given the recommendations to follow, in addition to communicating their situation to the Covid officer of their faculty or school (administrator of their center).
