The Canary Islands Parliament will host the exhibition of the 150th anniversary of the Red Cross on the islands next June. The president of the Parliament of the Canary Islands, Astrid Pérez, met this Thursday with the president of the Red Cross in the islands, Mayte Pociello, and with its provincial president in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Heliodoro González, to discuss the organization, next June in the exhibition hall of the Chamber, of the commemorative exhibition of the 150th anniversary of the Red Cross in the Archipelago.
"For the Canary Islands Parliament it will be a pleasure to lend our facilities so that many more people can see the photographic exhibition '150 Years of Humanitarian Action in the Canary Islands', which reviews the solidarity trajectory of this entity since its launch in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria on April 1, 1874. It has been more than a century and a half of work with the most vulnerable people, which undoubtedly deserves all our attention and support," said Astrid Pérez.
Pociello recalled that "this year 2024 has a special relevance for the Red Cross in the Canary Islands, since the organization celebrates the 150 years since its creation in the islands. To commemorate this anniversary, different activities and dissemination actions are being organized to make known to the whole society our extensive history of humanitarian action in the islands, as well as to recognize and thank the great work of all the people, who in one way or another, have participated and have made possible the development of the work of the Red Cross in the Canary Islands".
The traveling photographic exhibition '150 Years of Humanitarian Action in the Canary Islands' showcases the historical journey of the organization through eight totems, with three sides each, where its evolution is narrated and some of the most relevant images in the history of this entity are shown. It will be installed in the Canary Islands Parliament in the second half of June, they have specified.
