Mauritanian authorities dismantled this Wednesday a network integrated by three suspects accused of organizing clandestine migration to the Canary Islands, according to a statement from the Mauritanian Police.

The group operated by recruiting candidates in a "neighboring country", not specified in the note, to organize irregular trips to the Spanish archipelago.

The police operation allowed the arrest of the three members of the network: two Mauritanian citizens and a foreigner, identified as the alleged leader and whose nationality was not revealed, who is already facing a judicial process in his country of origin.

Likewise, 15 people applying for migration of different African nationalities were arrested, located in a house in the capital, Nouakchott, and transferred to a reception center in a popular neighborhood of the city.

According to the Police, the detainees admitted to having collected close to 40,000 euros from the payments of migrants for a trip that was in preparation.

Numerous life jackets and food provisions stored by the network were also seized in the house, the note concludes.
