Airlines will reduce "at least" half of their seat offer and will only be able to sell a third of the seats on each plane "to guarantee adequate distancing between travelers." This is stated in the royal decree approved this Saturday by the Government of Spain to shape the state of alarm announced on Friday by the head of the state Executive, Pedro Sánchez, to stop the advance of the coronavirus.
Unlike most of the precepts contained in the articles, the President of Spain clarified that those referring to air transport will take "a few days to become effective". Airlines need them to adapt their operations to this new reality.
Sánchez explained the impact on the mobility of Spaniards from non-peninsular territories by using the imaginary displacement of a Gran Canarian to Tenerife. "You can do it in the cases in which the rest of the movements are contemplated, for example to take care of a family member." However, "you will not be able to go see a friend or party, among other things because, unfortunately, there will be no party either."
The calculation of only two passengers per row is made on a standard device with six seats in each of them, which will allow one traveler on each side of the aisle. Obviously, in other aircraft with less capacity, the presence of users will be even more dispersed.
In addition, Sánchez referred to people who are displaced in cities other than those in which they have their usual homes. The president explained that they will be able to return and from that moment be subject, like the rest of the citizens, to general mobility restrictions.
