The President of the Government of the Canary Islands, Fernando Clavijo, has agreed with the Minister of Territorial Policy and Democratic Memory, Ángel Víctor Torres, to close a legislative text within ten days that guarantees an extraordinary distribution of part of the unaccompanied migrant minors that the archipelago hosts.

According to Clavijo, after the meeting held this Wednesday in Madrid, it has been agreed to give this term to the legal services of the autonomous community and those of the State so that they agree on a draft decree law or "other legislative formula" that serves to "alleviate the limit situation" that the Canary Islands is experiencing. Once closed, said legislative proposal will be submitted to the State Attorney's Office or the State Council so that it has "all the guarantees" legal.

The agreement reached this Wednesday occurs after the President of the Canary Islands and the Basque Country, Imanol Pradales, raised a decree law to the Conference of Presidents held on December 9 in Santander for an extraordinary distribution of part of the 5,812 migrant children hosted in the archipelago today.

Clavijo explained that the legal services of the Spanish Government have put "some nuances" to this legislative proposal, which is why the lawyers of the Canarian Government and those of the State will have a period of ten days to resolve these differences and agree on a definitive text.

During the meeting at the Ministry of Territorial Policy, Clavijo defended that the extraordinary distribution of migrant minors should be carried out by decree law, since this legal formula guarantees immediate application and the Canary Islands is in a "limit" situation.

Whether or not this is the formula, the President of the Canary Islands hopes to have this legislative proposal by the end of the month, to then begin negotiations with the parties with representation in the Congress of Deputies.

In this regard, he was confident that the vast majority of political forces would support this proposal for the extraordinary distribution of minors. "No one can be against alleviating an emergency situation like the one in the Canary Islands," he said after recalling that the archipelago "has always helped other autonomous communities and we expect the same solidarity."

In addition to the approval of this decree law, the head of the autonomous government has also taken advantage of the meeting with the Minister of Territorial Policy to put on the table the situation of the 545 asylum files of children from Mali hosted in the Canary Islands. These files await a resolution from the Ministry of the Interior so that the State assumes their guardianship. Its fulfillment, recalled Fernando Clavijo, would also help alleviate the pressure suffered by the archipelago's reception system.

Finally, the head of the Canarian Government has stressed that he does not renounce the change of article 35 of the Immigration Law, a legislative proposal that has the support of the Canarian Migration Pact but still fails to obtain the support of the majority of the Congress of Deputies.
