Canary Islands registers 102 new cases of Covid and four deaths, one of a 38-year-old man

Active cases have decreased to 10,571 in the archipelago after 1,496 discharges were reported in the last day

The Canary Islands has registered 102 new cases of coronavirus and four deaths in the last day, two in Tenerife and the other two in Gran Canaria.

According to the Ministry of Health, all the deceased are men, those in Tenerife are 89 and 86 years old and those in Gran Canaria are 69 and 38 years old and, except for the 69-year-old man, all suffered from previous pathologies.

The total number of accumulated cases in the Canary Islands is 92,883, of which 10,571 are active after also reporting 1,496 discharges in the last day. There are 61 patients admitted to the ICU and 332 in hospital wards, while the remaining 10,178 are in home isolation.

By islands, Tenerife has added 49 cases and has 6,144 active cases, Gran Canaria has registered 35 new positives and has 4,121 active cases, Fuerteventura has reported nine new cases and has 227 active cases, and Lanzarote has added three positives and has 52 active cases. La Palma and El Hierro have also registered three new cases and have 15 and six active cases respectively, and La Gomera has not reported any new positives and has six active cases.

The data reported today represent a decrease of 57 positives compared to last Tuesday, when 159 new infections were reported. In this regard, the Ministry of Health highlights the downward trend of cases, which is reflected in the indicator of accumulated incidence (AI) at seven days, which stands for the whole of the Autonomous Community at 42.6 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, compared to 60.11 seven days ago. This trend is confirmed in the AI at seven days in all the islands, with Tenerife registering the largest decrease, standing slightly above 40 cases, compared to 67 per 100,000 inhabitants a week ago.

In the case of the accumulated incidence at 14 days, for the whole of the Canary Islands it has gone from 144.81 to 102.71 cases per 100,000 inhabitants.

Until this Tuesday, a total of 2,034,775 diagnostic tests have been carried out in the Islands, of which 4,385 correspond to the last day.
