Canary Islands has registered so far a total of 2,235 accumulated cases of COVID-19, which is four more than on Tuesday when there were 2,231, and a slight increase of 0.17%. Of the total cases, 833 remain active. With data closed at 8:00 p.m., on the islands 1,258 people have been discharged after overcoming the coronavirus, almost nine times more than the number of deaths, which already reaches 144.
According to data from the Ministry of Health, a total of 920 people have required hospitalization in the Canary Islands after testing positive for coronavirus, of which 176 have required admission to intensive care units. A total of 22 people who have tested positive for COVID-19 still remain in the ICU and 77 are on the ward, while 736 positives are in their homes.
Of the positives registered by the virus, which already affects some 55 municipalities, 1,217 are women and 1,018 are men. The number of healthcare professionals infected by COVID-19 since the beginning of the crisis is 583. The SCS has 31,000 workers, which represents 1.86% of the total.
This Wednesday, the Management of Health Services of La Palma has communicated three more infections among its professionals that will be notified in the statistics of this Thursday. With these three new cases, the percentage of positives would be 1.89 percent of the total number of SCS workers, which amounts to 31,000 employees.
According to the epidemiological data available in the islands, 35 people have been discharged in the last 24 hours and one death has been registered.
In addition, the Canary Islands Health Service has carried out up to this Wednesday 75,388 PCR tests (Polymerase Chain Reaction) for the diagnosis of Covid-19 to 61,823 people.
The Ministry of Health reiterates the importance of maintaining confinement as much as possible to prevent the most vulnerable people from becoming ill. This is the case of immunocompromised patients, diabetics, people with chronic cardiovascular disease, chronic pulmonary disease, chronic renal disease or neuromuscular disease or people with cancer.
