The air navigation manager Enaire operated 33,525 flights in the Canary Islands in March, 12.5% more than last year.
Throughout Spain, Enaire operated more than 158,400 flights in March, 17% more than in 2022 and 1.1% above the records for that month in 2019, a year that had been a record.
The largest increases occurred in the control centers of Barcelona (with 66,310 flights, up 20.2%); Seville, 37,988 (18.7% growth); Madrid, 93,116 (14.5% more); Canary Islands, 33,525 (12.5%), and Palma, 16,671 (11.2%)
During the past Easter week, from March 31 to April 9, Enaire managed 60,425 flights, 4.7% more than in the equivalent period last year (from April 8 to April 17).
The accumulated figures for the first three months of the year are only slightly below those from before the pandemic, since a decrease of 0.6% was recorded over that period of 2019, with almost 433,000 flights managed, 25.5% more than in the same period of 2022.
According to the information released this Tuesday by the public company, the growth of air traffic in Spain in March was two points higher than the European average (17%) and extends to all control centers.
Of the 158,412 flights managed in March, 84,294 were international (15.3% more than a year earlier); 35,957, national (14.8% more), and 38,161, overflights (which do not originate or have their destination at a Spanish airport), 23.2% more.
