The General Directorate of Emergencies has asked the Canary Islands population to "limit the use of mobile phones as much as possible" to free up the network and give priority to emergency calls. This has been disseminated on its social media account.

In two different communications, with 15 minutes between them, 112 Canary Islands has insisted to the population to limit the use of mobile phones as much as possible. "Calls to 112 have priority over the rest," they have indicated, while insisting that "problems are being registered in the Canary Islands in mobile phone companies due to congestion of the systems."

For its part, the Government of the Canary Islands will keep the alert situation active of the Territorial Emergency Plan of Civil Protection of the Autonomous Community of the Canary Islands (PLATECA) to continue monitoring, in real time, the possible incidents in the supply of basic services in the archipelago after the blackout that has been registered in Spain. Likewise, it calls on the population to remain calm and moderate the use of mobile phones to avoid saturating the networks.

Likewise, the power outage in the Iberian Peninsula caused the interruption of 012 in the Canary Islands. Therefore, the Ministry of Health requested the population to request an appointment through the miSCS application.

It should be remembered that the Regional Emergency Directorate met on Monday afternoon to assess the possible impact on basic supplies in the archipelago. In addition, they have declared the alert on the eight islands for the same reason.

This decision has been taken after the meeting of the PLATECA Advisory Committee, chaired by the Minister of Territorial Policy, Territorial Cohesion and Water, Manuel Miranda, and in which the Deputy Minister of Emergencies and Water, Marcos Lorenzo, the General Director of Emergencies, Fernando Figuereo, the Head of the Civil Protection and Emergencies Service, Montserrat Román, and representatives of the island councils, the Sub-delegation of the State Government and the companies supplying basic services also participated.

This afternoon there have been problems in the mobile phone network due to congestion of the systems, although the operators have guaranteed access to 112 since emergency calls have priority over the rest. Until now, the Canary Islands ports and airports have functioned normally and the only relevant incident, so far, has been the fall of the information telephone of the Government of the Canary Islands, 012, whose service was fully restored at 3:30 p.m.

Likewise, the Canary Islands Emergency and Security Network (RESCAN) and the Emergency and Security Coordinating Center (CECOES) 112 have been operational at all times, with the latter service registering some incidents at the national level in the call location tool. From the operating rooms we are collaborating with the emergency services of other autonomous communities by diverting alerts from other parts of the country in which some type of assistance is requested.

The Government of the Canary Islands asks the population to follow the information through official information sources and to make rational use of mobile phones so that the network remains free, does not become saturated, and can be used in emergency situations.
