Residents of Tahíche have expressed their discomfort with what they consider a growing "politicization of the town's festivities", directly accusing Coalición Canaria (CC) of instrumentalizing these events for partisan purposes. This year, they claim, the celebrations have taken on a markedly electoral tone.

One of the main criticisms focuses on the investment, which they describe as disproportionate, by the Cabildo in a "super party" lasting a month. According to residents, this deployment has even overshadowed other traditional festivities of the municipality, such as the celebrations in honor of the Virgen del Carmen, patron saint of Teguise.

"The festival committee is mostly made up of CC members in Teguise, and that has divided the town. The festivities should unite us, not become a political showcase," says a neighbor.

The election of the Romera Mayor has also generated controversy: this year the daughter of the vice president of the neighborhood association won, while in the previous edition it was the daughter of the current mayor of Teguise. These events have raised criticism for "alleged favoritism within the contest".

In addition, the organization of the traditional pilgrimage left the residents of Azorín street unsatisfied, where the procession usually passed. "They left us waiting without prior notice, breaking with a tradition deeply felt in the area," they lament.

To this is added the recent resignation of the president of the neighborhood association, who would have left her position in the midst of internal tensions over the management of the festivities, with the aim of not hindering their development.

"It is a shame that a town as large as Tahiche is losing the spirit of community due to political interests," concludes the neighbor.
