Zonzamas Plus Car Lanzarote closed the first half of the Liga Guerreras Iberdrola with a 25-21 defeat against Rocasa Gran Canaria at the Antonio Moreno Insular Pavilion in Telde, in a Canarian derby corresponding to matchday 13 in which the Lanzarote players offered a competitive and solid performance, although without a final reward on the scoreboard.
The match began with a dazzling start from Zonzamas, very intense in defense and accurate in attack, which surprised Rocasa with a 0-3 run. The good start forced the home team to call a timeout at 3:36, seeking to slow down the pace set by the "batateras." Little by little, Rocasa adjusted their game and managed to close the gap, first after a disputed seven-meter throw converted by Linneá (4-5, min. 13:40) and later with a goal into an empty net that leveled the score (5-5, min. 14:56).
The exchange of blows continued for the rest of the first half. A steal by Nahomi Márquez, finished off by Marie Louis, allowed Zonzamas to regain the lead (6-8, min. 20), but Rocasa responded again by opting for a more mobile attack and managed to draw level in the final stretch of the first half (10-10, min. 27:30). At halftime, the score was an even 11-11, leaving the derby completely open.
After the restart, the Gran Canaria team came out more focused and quickly took the lead (13-11), capitalizing on a slight dip in Zonzamas' offensive intensity. The Lanzarote team reacted with character and, after a counter-attack finished by Marie Louis, they equalized the match again (15-15, min. 7:50). However, the Gran Canaria team found more continuity in their game once more and opened a small gap (18-16), prompting Juan Rivera to call a timeout at minute 16:04.
In the final stretch, Zonzamas always stayed two goals behind, unable to complete the comeback. Rocasa managed the final minutes better and, taking advantage of a counter-attack by Larissa Da Silva (23-20, min. 26), managed to seal the game. The final score, 25-21, does not fully reflect the good work done by the Lanzarote team, which once again competed with character against one of the strongest teams in the league
With this match, Zonzamas Plus Car Lanzarote closes the first round and the competitive year. Upon the return of the competition, the Batatero team will face the postponed match against Costa del Sol Málaga, a game suspended at the time due to problems with the Lanzarote team's travel, a key date to try to add points and change the dynamic in the standings.
