El Zonzamas Plus Car Lanzarote once again came close to points, but once again was left with the honey on its lips. The Lanzarote team fell this Saturday 27-29 to Caja Rural Aula Valladolid at the Ciudad Deportiva Lanzarote, in a match corresponding to the tenth round of the Liga Guerreras Iberdrola. Despite good stretches of play and leading the score at times, the "batateras" repeated a familiar flaw: competing well, but without finishing off the matches
The match started uphill, with two shots hitting the post and a more effective Aula quickly taking the lead (1-4, min. 7). Juan Rivera's team reacted with Gleinys Reyes's success and defensive push from the block, but the Valladolid team maintained a high pace that punished every local turnover. After a timeout to reorganize ideas, Zonzamas gained confidence and, with Paula Fernández and Marie Louis leading the attack, managed to equalize the score (13-13, min. 26). A penalty converted by Louis put the Lanzaroteñas ahead for the first time (14-13, min. 28), and at halftime, the lead was promising (16-14)
The second half started with energy. Zonzamas extended their lead (18-15, min. 33) by taking advantage of exclusions against Valeska Lovera and Nerea Patiño, but the home team failed to consolidate their advantage. Attacking errors and imprecise transitions allowed Aula to get back into the game. Argentine goalkeeper Marisol Carratú held the visitors, while Amaia González de Garibay and Naroa Baquedano punished in the other area (18-18, min. 41)
Although Valentina Menucci held Zonzamas with several saves and the "batateras" achieved a 3-0 partial (21-18, min. 45), history repeated itself. Aula Valladolid knew how to wait for its moment and, with more organized and effective play, turned the score around (22-23, min. 51). In the final minutes, Zonzamas fought until the end, with Irene Botella tying the match (27-27, min. 58), but the goals from Inoa Lucio and Amaia González de Garibay in the final stretch sealed the game (27-29)Juan Rivera's team did not offer their best performance, penalized by turnovers, a lack of accuracy in key moments, and their usual tendency to fall just short of victory. With this defeat, Zonzamas remains in the danger zone of the standings and will face their next away game in Galicia, where they will play Conservas Orbe Zendal Porriño, before the break for the World Cup event.
