The Juan Morales Cáceres Memorial has marked the beginning of the preseason tournaments on the island of Lanzarote. CD Tinajo and UD Lanzarote opened the tournament on Thursday night, facing each other in the first semifinal. The "rojillos" (reds) had more difficulties than expected to defeat CD Tinajo 1-2. The team coached by Fabián Rivero waited until the final minutes of the match to turn the score around.
As often happens in this type of match, little play was seen on the field of the Municipal de Los Volcanes. The players of both teams have heavy legs at this point in the season and can only put little rhythm into their game. UD Lanzarote was the one who had control of the ball in the first half. The strong pressure from Tinajo prevented the "rojillos" from feeling comfortable in the circulation of the ball and, for the most part, they tried to open the game on the wings.
Dangerous chances were conspicuous by their absence in the first half of the match and the goalkeepers were luxury spectators in the first 45 minutes. A foul by Ayoze that did not find the three posts and the response from Francisco after a corner kick with a shot at the near post were the only dangerous arrivals.
The second half began with a chance for CD Tinajo. Isaac tried his luck with a shot from the edge of the area and Santi Lampón with a stretched hand sent the ball to a corner kick. Both teams made many changes in this second half and the coaches tried to make changes in their game.
The goals
CD Tinajo would take the lead in the 66th minute of the match. Pedrito put a ball between the lines for his teammate Cristo, who entered the area and was brought down by Lampón. Víctor Rodríguez would not miss the penalty, establishing the 1-0 on the scoreboard.
UD Lanzarote regained control of the game, although they did not have clear ideas. Haste took hold of the "rojillos", with balls hung into the area and without managing to finish the few attacking actions they were able to create.
The match changed radically in two minutes, a period in which UD Lanzarote managed to turn the score around. The equalizing goal came in the 85th minute. Jotha executed a free kick from the left side, the goalkeeper Néstor stayed under the posts not being able to clear the ball with his fists, and allowed Gustavo to finish at will at the far post.
And in the next attacking play of UD Lanzarote, Toñito forcefully took the ball down the right wing, took out a cross that could not be finished in the first instance by Rosmen at the penalty spot and Jotha at the far post sent the ball into the back of the net.
CD Tinajo turned over the goal of UD Lanzarote in the minutes of extension and the "rojillos" on the counterattack could increase the differences in the score. With the 1-2 the match would come to an end and UD Lanzarote obtained its classification for the final of the XXII Juan Morales Cáceres Memorial.
On Thursday night, the second semifinal will be played. From 9:00 p.m. San Bartolomé CF will face Unión Sur Yaiza at the Municipal de Los Volcanes.
