The municipal facilities of the Agapito Reyes Viera Football Field, in the AltaVista neighborhood, host the LV San Ginés Football Tournament, organized by the Arrecife City Council within the program of events for the patron saint festivities of the capital of Lanzarote.
The mayor Yonathan de León, together with the Councilor for Sports, Eli Merino, and the president of UD, Juan Carlos Albuixech, presented the tournament poster this Wednesday morning. A presentation that took place in the facilities of the Agapito Reyes Viera Municipal Football Field, the same sports venue where the celebration of Los Sangineles began last Friday with the reading of the proclamation by the international coach Alejandro Hernández Hernández, born in the capital of Lanzarote.
The LV edition of the San Ginés Football Tournament, organized directly by the Arrecife Department of Sports, led by Councilor Eli Merino, arrives this 2024 with important sports news. For the first time, this tournament will be played in the men's and women's football categories, where the city of Arrecife is contributing great triumphs in the women's division.
The San Ginés Tournament, as the mayor Yonathan de León remarked in the presentation, is the oldest summer tournament in the Canary Islands, and the eighth oldest in Spain. This year, where the 225th anniversary of the founding of the municipality of Arrecife is commemorated, it has the participation of two teams from the Second Rfef Category, CD Tenerife B and U.S Yaiza, both Canarian teams have achieved promotion the season concluded at the beginning of this summer.
The tournament, which will be held on August 15, 16 and 17, will also feature the participation of two teams from the third RFEF, Unión Deportiva Lanzarote and San Bartolomé CF.
In the women's football category, which is held for the first time in this San Ginés tournament, CDO Marítima, recently promoted to the second RFEF Futfem, will compete on the field against Fundación CD Tenerife, Second Rfef.
Mayor Yonathan de León emphasized today in the presentation that “bringing this tournament to Altavista is part of the commitment we are making in this mandate to all the neighborhoods. We did it with the proclamation, and now this important tournament of our patron saint festivities”. The teams, added the mayor, will see these renovated sports facilities, within the many improvements that we are undertaking in the neighborhoods.
For her part, Councilor Eli Merino, detailed that during “these San Ginés 2024 festivities there is a great commitment to sporting events. A program that is enhanced with these activities and competitions, which we have launched from the Sports Area. We are working to make Arrecife the capital of sports and events”.
In previous editions, Councilor Eli Merino highlights, “the match for the third and fourth male place was normally played and then the grand final. This year, we give the same status to the female. The day of the grand final will be first the female and then the male “. The councilor, who also directs the Department of Tourism and Commerce, remarked that “for the city of Arrecife, having a great quarry in football, both male and female, should be supported and highlighted”.

On Thursday, August 15, at 7:00 p.m., there will be a match between the teams US Yaiza vs CD San Bartolomé.
On the 16th, at 7:00 p.m., there will be a match between UD Lanzarote vs Club Deportivo Tenerife B.
On Saturday the 17th, at 12:00 p.m., the Agapito Reyes will vibrate with the match between the veterans of the island of Lanzarote vs the veteran majoreros of Club La Pared, in Fuerteventura.
At 5:00 p.m. on the same Saturday, the 17th, will be the women's final between the teams Orientación Marítima Vs Club Deportivo Fundación Tenerife. At 7:00 p.m. will be the semi-final A vs winner Semi-final B match. The tournament will conclude with the delivery of trophies and awards at the Agapito Reyes Viera.
The veterans will be between the players of the association of Lanzarote against the veterans of UD Lanzarote Pared.
