The high price of air fuel is increasing the pressure from airlines on Brussels to reduce or suspend compensation for cancellations and free hand luggage.
Precisely when the European Parliament was studying whether to force low-cost airlines to allow two free cabin bags per passenger.
Although some airlines, such as British Airways, already allow it, according to the newspaper Expansión, low-cost companies argue that they would have to increase ticket prices, which would pose problems for their business model, dependent on shorter turnarounds after the plane lands.
The airline sector has also requested that the rules preventing them from refueling with cheaper fuel before entering the EU be modified.
In addition, airlines are also pushing for the cost of compensation for those passengers who have suffered cancellations to be reduced.
On the list of requests from the sector to Brussels, the request for changes in the rules regarding airport slots is also included - which currently oblige airlines to use them or run the risk of losing them even when demand is small.
The European Commissioner for Transport said about it: "we will allow some flexibility in landing and takeoff rights at airports, public service obligations, and passenger rights".
To do this, he promised "temporary modifications to legislation" if the situation worsens.
