The Lanzarote Quemao Class has established itself as a leading event in Europe, not only in the sporting field, but as a tourist, social and economic attraction for the island of Lanzarote. This has been achieved after the success obtained in its eight past editions, where it has expanded its horizons beyond sports.
Now, it has presented its 9th edition, in which, through different social, sports, sustainable and gastronomic dynamizations, it will continue to project the values that this event defends: the promotion of sports practice, social inclusion, respect for the environment and the promotion of local products. Once again, it will position Lanzarote at the world sports epicenter, welcoming surfers and bodyboarders from all over the world.
During the presentation, the president of the Cabildo de Lanzarote, Oswaldo Betancort, stated that "from the Cabildo de Lanzarote we have supported this event with the firm conviction that the promotion of sports activities such as the Lanzarote Quemao Class is a reflection of the importance of sports on our island and its connection with tourism." "This year, in addition to celebrating sports excellence, we have reinforced our commitment to education, the promotion of sustainability, youth sports and support for the primary sector," the president concluded.
The Minister of Sports, Juan Monzón, highlighted the pride that the Insular Sports Service represents in supporting this event that has become much more than a sporting event. He also added how the Lanzarote Quemao Class values sports and young promises of local sports, as well as promotes the attraction of athletes of both national and international character who contribute to placing the island on the world map.
Héctor Fernández, the CEO of SPEL-Turismo Lanzarote, highlighted "the existing synergy between surfing and tourism, this being a leading event that transcends sports, where aspects such as culture itself, sustainability, gastronomy, the cultural heritage of the island are combined... The Lanzarote Quemao Class is an event that helps to project the attractiveness of the island through the appeal of surfing".
The mayor of Tinajo, Jesús Machín, highlighted "the pride of having the best tube wave in Europe, where this event is held, which has already established itself as a very special event in the international sports field. He also stated how the Lanzarote Quemao Class also represents a great opportunity to publicize the gastronomy and local products that, like surfing and bodyboarding, are linked to the sea".
Finally, Héctor Rodríguez, co-director of the Lanzarote Quemao Class, took the floor to "thank the Cabildo de Lanzarote and the rest of the public and private collaborators who make the realization of this 9th edition possible. He continued expressing how some of the elite athletes that make up the list of competitors have already confirmed their presence one more year in La Santa, Tinajo to face the Quemao wave."
The local athletes Makoa Gómez, Cristian Portelli and Pablo Márquez were also present at the presentation of this 9th edition, where they had the opportunity to highlight "how this type of event is a great help for local athletes, especially young people." In addition, it allows Lanzarote to be promoted outside the archipelago. "It is an opportunity to do what we like the most, which is to surf and compete," they agreed. In addition, they highlighted how the Lanzarote Quemao Class contributes to seeing Lanzarote and La Santa as more than just surfing destinations.
The waiting period for this 9th edition of the Lanzarote Quemao Class will begin very soon, which once again will bring together surfers and bodyboarders from all over the world on the coast of Tinajo, while projecting not only the quality of its waves, but also the richness of its gastronomy and local products, as well as the promotion of respect for the environment.
