Last Saturday, 25 swimmers participated in the sports event, the 'Caleta-Caleta' swim, for a charitable cause and coinciding with its third edition. They started at 9:00 a.m. from 'Caleta de Sebo' in La Graciosa and swam for five hours, covering fifteen kilometers, before entering as a group on the beach of the town of Caleta Famara.
An initiative that allocates the registration money to ALANEM (Lanzarote Association for Assistance with Multiple Sclerosis) and donations from companies. "We have not yet calculated the total amount, but we could exceed 4,000 euros," specified one of the organizers, Juan Antonio Herrero.
In the words of the participants, "the experience was wonderful, because the seabed and the fauna we saw during the crossing are spectacular." Among the participants were "very experienced swimmers" who valued "the beauty of the landscape and the good atmosphere of the event," according to the organization.
Precisely, this initiative hopes to consolidate itself in the regional calendar of open water sports events, "although our objective is to maintain a quota of participants that does not exceed fifty, since we are aware of the fragility of the space we cross and we do not want to promote its massification," Herrero points out.
The Councilor for Sports, Alejandro Ramírez, and the Councilor for Animal Welfare, Carlos Cejudo, followed the event closely, as did dozens of people who applauded the effort made by these athletes committed to a good cause, the organization concludes.
