On Thursday morning, the traditional San Ginés Regatta of Latin Sail Barquillos was held, on the big day in honor of the patron saint of Arrecife. The strong wind made navigation difficult for the nine boats that took the start, with only four being able to complete the course planned by the Regatta Committee. The Furia II – Nissan, skippered by Estanis Bethencourt, took the victory, with the podium being completed with the second place of the Furia and the third position of the Biosfera Express La Graciosa.

The weather forecasts for Thursday morning did not fail, with a north wind of 15 knots that increased to 20 with the development of the regatta. One of the novelties was the start that was made with a full sail next to the facilities of the Insular Center of Nautical Sports of Arrecife, in Marina Colón. The course was a windward-leeward with four laps of the regatta course.

From the beginning, the Furia II Nissan and the Furia took the initiative with respect to the rest of the small boats, closely followed by the Fayna Salinas de Janubio, the Playa Blanca and the Biosfera Express La Graciosa. At the buoy located near land, the Fayna Salinas de Janubio suffered the breakage of the mast and the boat skippered by Alfredo Morales had to retire.

The Playa Blanca, skippered on this occasion by Orlando Umpiérrez, lost all options to fight for the victory by touching one of the buoys located in the high seas and being forced to penalize itself. The same thing happened to the Archipiélago Chinijo Graciplus of Nete Armas, when capsizing when fighting for the podium. The Furia II Nissan continued to increase the difference in the lead, and the boats suffered from the increase in wind intensity.

Finally, the Furia II Nissan, skippered by Estanis Bethencourt, took the victory in the San Ginés Regatta of Latin Sail Barquillos. The Furia, skippered by Matías Garcías, took second place, and the podium was completed with the third position of the Biosfera Express La Graciosa of Manri Rodríguez. The Playa Blanca completed the classification with the fourth place, while Archipiélago Chinijo, Guatiza, CID Náutico, Fayna Salinas de Janubio and Pescamar Titerroy could not finish the regatta.

Next Sunday, August 28, the Insular League of Latin Sail Barquillos of 5 Meters is resumed, with the celebration of the fourth day of the competition, valid for the Calero Marinas Lanzarote Trophy.
