The Cabildo of Lanzarote received the visit of the Lanzarote sailor and runner-up in Europe in the Snipe Youth category, Mariano Stinga, on August 16. Oswaldo Betancort, and the Minister of Sports, Juan Monzón, were in charge of personally receiving the sailor to congratulate him on behalf of the Corporation for his recent success in the European championship.

The president highlighted the honor that the Island represents in "having athletes of the stature of Mariano, who represent our Island internationally". In addition, Betancort insisted on the Cabildo's commitment to "the development of sport and the different support plans for athletes residing in Lanzarote and La Graciosa".

In the words of the Minister of Sports, Juan Monzón, "Mariano highlights the quality of our athletes. A quality that has been reflected in the excellent results he has achieved and for which we want to give him a big congratulations."

The competition took place at the end of July in A Coruña. In it, 19 crews from all over the world participated, seven of them Spanish. In it, Mariano Stinga finished in second position together with José Baamonde, a sailor from the Monte Real Club de Yates de Baiona, Vigo.

Both were in a podium position from the first day of competition, until this past Sunday, where they were only one point away from the championship lead.
