The participants of the twenty-third edition of the Canarias - Madeira International Regatta were entertained on Saturday afternoon, enjoying an evening at the Clube Naval do Funchal facilities where they could share experiences with the rest of the sailors.

It has been one of the toughest editions in recent years, at least according to the participating boats, having to face demanding wind and wave conditions. The “Lanzarote Sailing Paradaise” of Ye Cabrera inscribes its name in the honor roll of the Canarias - Madeira International Regatta. The regatta started on Wednesday morning from the bay of Arrecife, with a total of 43 boats taking the start.

The test started about 20 hours late, trying to avoid the effects of a DANA that would have made it even more difficult for the boats to navigate. On Thursday night the first boats arrived in Funchal, after completing about 294 nautical miles. Finally, 26 were the boats that were able to complete the regatta, with the rest suffering different problems that made them abandon or continue under power to the finish line.

At the awards ceremony, the top three finishers in each of the categories were awarded. In the OPEN 1 class the winner was the “Atlantis Tercero” of Gregorio Díaz and in the OPEN 2 class the winner was the “Lar Uno” of David Mellado.

As for the ORC 1-2 class, the victory went to the “Lanzarote Sailing Paradise” of Ye Cabrera, with the “Lola Tres” of Rafael Lasso and the “Muyay” of Aureliana Negrín completing the podium, being second and third, respectively. These positions were repeated in the general classification of the ORC class.

As for the ORC 3 class, the triumph was for the “Papoa” of Sergio Acevedo, with the classification being completed with the second place of the “Titilea” of Antonio J. Pérez and the third place of the “Vadio IV” of Hugo Rosa. And in the A2 class, the triumph was for the “Manitu” of Pedro Rodríguez Borges.

The special Alivar Cardoso award, which rewards the first boat to reach the finish line located in Funchal, was given in this edition to the “Lola Tres”. The boat of the CN Castillo del Águila and skippered by Rafael Lasso invested 36 hours, 15 minutes and 10 seconds in completing the approximately 294 nautical miles between Arrecife and the capital of Madeira. The “Sorondongo IV” of Miguel Ángel Armas was the second and third would be the “Swing” of José Augusto Lorenzo.
