A Ryanair flight en route from Lanzarote to Dublin had to divert to Santiago de Compostela airport this Saturday, January 24, after a medical emergency occurred on board, according to the official Air Traffic Controllers account on the social network X.
According to the information released, the flight crew requested the diversion when the aircraft was in Portuguese airspace, due to the worsening health condition of a passenger. The operation was carried out in coordination with Portuguese air traffic controllers, who facilitated a continuous descent, a route shortening as much as possible, and a direct approach to runway 35 at Santiago airport, identified as LEST.
In parallel, the emergency protocol was activated at Rosalía de Castro airport, where ground medical assistance was coordinated to attend to the passenger immediately upon landing
From the air traffic controllers' collective, they have publicly conveyed their wishes for a speedy recovery to the affected person.
