The Ariagona basketball club presents the season with all its teams after two years of pandemic

The Ariagona Basketball Club presented its teams last weekend in an event where both players coincided on the courts of the Blas Cabrera Felipe Institute, with their parents. The 16 teams, with more than 176 players, were able to share a festive day with their parents, enjoying what unites them the most, the taste for sports and the passion for basketball.

Ariagona was born in Arrecife 22 years ago as a women's basketball club, although it is now also integrating boys in different categories. Currently, it has 13 coaches who educate their players in healthy competition from mixed pre-Benjamin to the first national senior women's division.

Juan Carlos Arrocha, President and founder of the club, recalls how hard these years of pandemic have been: “we didn't know when we could train, competitions were suspended, and all for health, which is obviously the most important thing, but the illusion and the desire to play remained intact among the girls and boys, a great lesson for the adults”.

The club develops its activity on the sports courts of the Las Salinas de Arrecife, Benito Méndez, and Blas Cabrera Felipe educational centers, as well as the Lanzarote Sports City. When Juan Carlos is asked what makes the club keep going, he is clear: “seeing the satisfaction that a girl or boy has when scoring their first basket has no explanation, neither for the club nor for the parents”.
